Advantages over a horizontal
machining center
- The Automatic Tailstock
support provides rigidity and accuracy for long tombstone
pallets.
- By supporting both ends of the tombstone, the resonance
frequency is significantly dampened. Eliminating the problem
of micro-chipping with carbide inserts. It also allows for
higher feeds and speed as well as improved surface finishes.
- With support at both ends longer and thinner
tombstones are now possible. This reduces the weight and cost
usually associated with large tombstones.
- The increased length allows for more parts
to be loaded for each setup. Since deflection
is not an issue, thinner tombstones can be used for increased
flexibility and easier access for multi-sided machining.
- Loading parts on the horizontal pallet surface
is much easier than the vertical surface of a pallet used
on a horizontal machining center.
MACHINING PERFORMANCE
As a system, a tombstone pallet supported at
the ends by the Pallet Rotary Table and the
Automatic Tailstock provide rigidity much
greater than the machining center. When combined with the
machining center , machining performance is not noticeably
reduced and in fact is often improved by better cutter access
to the part.
